Buffalo Blox Gigablox: Slot Overview
In some ways, you have to admire Swedish developer Yggdrasil. The studio has a real 'all for one, one for all' ethos and is willing to share its bounty with the companies it works with. Well, maybe not bounty, we can't really comment on that, but Yggdrasil is more than willing to loan its game mechanics out to partner studios. This time it's up and comers Jelly, who find themselves on the receiving end of the more established studio's sharing, caring attitude in a slot called Buffalo Blox. Like others in the Yggdrasil fold, Jelly has built a game around the Gigablox mechanic, using supplementary features such as free spins, stacked symbols, and instant coin symbol cash prizes.
To date, Jelly slots have tended to be either nature or mythologically based, with Buffalo Blox falling into the former category. It takes place in the North American wilderness, amidst a land of much nature and few people. When you think about it, outside of streaming, playing slots is a fairly solitary pastime. Perhaps there is a link between those who gamble online and those who shun modern life to live in a cave in the middle of nowhere? Maybe there is a gene or personality trait shared between hermits and slot players which science has yet to discover? Just thinking out loud. Anyway, Buffalo Blox presents as pretty a picture of the rich North American landscape as most others, ever so slightly spoiled by the diamond symbol, which feels out of place in such a pristine environment.
Never mind, Buffalo Blox is an online slot, after all, not a nature documentary and is played on a 5-reel game board. On every spin, Gigablox merges at least two reels together to create larger symbols, all the way up to 4x4 sized colossal symbols. The RTP isn't quite colossal but sits in the middle of the range at 95%, while hits occur at a frequency of 24.27%. When loading up stakes, the choices vary from 20 p/c to $/€100 per spin, and the game is playable on any device.
When Gigablox symbols are part of winning combinations, they are broken down into their regular 1x1 constituent parts for evaluation. A total of 20 fixed paylines are provided, creating a win when at least three or more symbols land left to right from the first reel onwards. Symbols include 9-A card ranks as the low pays and a selection of animals as premiums, climaxing in buffalo symbols which can land stacked. Coin symbols are used to award instant cash prizes, which are covered in the following section. For now, know that some coins are wild, so they may be used to complete winning lines of regular paying symbols.
Buffalo Blox Gigablox: Slot Features
The other way coins are useful is when six of them land in view to award an instant cash prize. Landing all 20 coins in free spins triggers a payout worth 2,500x the bet.
Free Spins
Free spins are triggered when at least 5 diamond scatter symbols are in view. Each triggering diamond symbol awards either 1 or 2 free spins each. During free spins, only 4 coin mega symbols are required to make a prize. Moreover, be on the lookout for even more buffalo or coins. It's also possible to retrigger free spins when any diamond symbol hits.
Buffalo Bet
The Buffalo Bet may be activated from the base game. It raises the bet by 25% to increase the chance of triggering free spins. Symbol values remain the same when the Buffalo Bet is activated.
Buffalo Blox Gigablox: Slot Verdict
There is a level of satisfaction to be found in Buffalo Blox by the right person, but it's not a hugely innovative slot from a gameplay or thematic perspective. According to one source, there are approximately 350,000 to 400,000 wood bison in North America, and sometimes, you know, it kind of feels like there are just as many buffalo slots on the iGaming plains as well. Okay, not quite so many, yet there are a few, and Buffalo Blox from Jelly sort sits in the middle of the spectrum. It's got nice graphics, and the features should excite some players, but it doesn't offer novelty in the way buffalo slots like Push Gaming's Bison Battle or Hacksaw Gaming's Buffalo Stack'n'Sync did.
That's not to say Buffalo Blox Gigablox doesn't have its place. Jelly has given the game a neat, Grizzy and the Lemmings look, which some players might find fun. Scatter/money/coin symbols leading to instant cash prizes are immensely popular, so here's another one to try if you find this style of play exciting. The rewards aren't massive, though they are on par with other slots using a similar cash prize system. Compared to benchmark releases like 9 Masks of Fire to some of the bigger stuff Just For The Win has been turning out, Buffalo Blox Gigablox's 2,500x the bet top prize (in free spins) is pretty average.
Overall potential isn't startlingly great, and while an in-game notice states 5,000x the bet is possible, the default max multiplier on the game docs is less, at 2,898x the bet. So that's something to think about if you're deciding to hit the Great Plains for a bit of buffalo spotting. Both values certainly pale in comparison to 4ThePLayer's Gigablox contribution, 90K Yeti Gigablox. As the name says, 90,000 times the bet is up for grabs in the Yeti game, an astonishing amount which was almost achieved – during its base game, no less.
While capably executed overall, it's hard to consider anything Buffalo Blox does as hugely exciting. The game goes about its business in a competently reserved type of way without attracting too much attention to itself. Still, certain players looking for an outdoorsy, back to nature slot with a scatter symbol cash prize win feature might be intrigued by Buffalo Blox, provided going massive isn't a must.
